However, you must ask yourself just how it can benefit your organization's specific needs. Electronic document management and content management is a very horizontal technology. That is, it can be used in a variety of industries because virtually every industry has paper or electronic content problems. However, all too often, document management and content management providers take too broad of an approach, leaving you with a generic solution that doesn't fit your individual needs. On the other extreme, some document management providers focus too greatly on customization for a specific industry. This so-called customization, in their eyes, justifies charging astronomical prices for their systems.
